Need a Battery with your Solar System?

A battery along with a #solarPV system helps to access clean power in the absence of sun or during #poweroutages. Not sure if you need a #batterystorage solution?

For a business that consumes 1000 kWh (unit) per day from the #grid, there would be a need for approximately a 350kWp solar PV system and 800-900kWh battery storage to meet their entire power demand. This may not be a financially feasible solution due to the cost of battery, which can go as high as 200% of the solar PV system cost. Alternatively, businesses can combine reduced battery size with solar PV as a solution for #loadshedding, and save on peak power prices. For South African businesses, this solution becomes even more lucrative in light of the power supply related challenges.

Cosmic Clean Energy provides an optimized techno-commercial solution to meet specific power demands of businesses without any #CAPEX.

Solar makes Good Business Sense

South Africa has the dubious distinction of having the largest #CarbonFootprint in Africa, contributing approximately 40% of the total co2 emissions in the continent
By adopting solar energy solutions, businesses can help reduce their carbon footprint, while simultaneously improving their company’s bottom line.

Why Solar?

  1. Continuous #loadshedding leading to approximately 2% loss in sales
  2. Decreasing solar deployment costs and increasing energy tariffs
  3. High ROI compared to other investment avenues
  4. Tax incentives
  5. 2-3 years of payback period
  6. Enhanced value of property & business
…and many more reasons

What is a PPA?

What is a PPA?

A solar power purchase agreement, also referred to as an SPPA or a PPA, is an energy alternative that allows businesses to access solar power without bearing the burden of setting up, operating and maintaining the solar system on their own. It is an agreement signed between a developer like Cosmic and a client that is looking for a clean and affordable source of electricity.
PPAs transfer the responsibilities associated with project development, permits, financing, installation, maintenance and the like, to the developer. The benefits of solar – cost-effective, renewable energy – continue to be extended to the client to help them meet their sustainability goals.

Benefits of PPA

Features of PPA

Types of PPA:

On-site PPAs

This PPA involves the installation of the solar PV system within the premises on site, and the client is billed for the power that the PV system generates. This is a less expensive alternative to the aggregated electricity procured from other sources such as the local municipality or ESKOM.

Off-site or Utility Scale Solar PPA

Not all businesses have sufficient physical space within their premises to deploy a solar plant; and there are some businesses which are very energy-intensive, with a high energy consumption. The Utility Scale Solar PPA/off-site PPA solution caters to both these categories of clients, helping them meet their energy requirements by sourcing electricity from solar farms located elsewhere. The mechanism by which the electricity is transferred to a distant location is referred to as ‘wheeling’.

Hybrid Solar PPA

This PPA involves the installation of the solar PV system within the premises along with other alternate sources of energy such as battery storage, gas etc. This Hybrid solution ensures zero interruption of power despite load shedding and helps in peak-shaving.
